In 1997 a close friend named Ken Iverson from Australia helped me put up my first webpage titled The HIV/AIDS Reference Page which is still up there with out of date links, but it was my first venture into the 'brave new world' of the internet and by 2000 had brought more than 50,000 visitors to me and my experience. In 1998 I read in Craig?s List about a site under development by a brilliant young PR professional in San Francisco named Susan Mactavish Best called posthoc and volunteered to become a restaurant critic and for several years wrote reviews and created content related to hospitality. A couple of years ago I heard about a young man calling himself Mr. SF who had developed a site named Heart of the City extolling the infinite delights of this great City we both celebrate. His site is nourishment for the soul of all visitors, residents and wannabe voyagers to this amazing City. Very early in my relationship with the World Wide Web I found sites for men like myself to connect with men who sought men like me, and that opened doors I'd been oblivious to all my life. I've watched a movement grow based on what are now called Bears and their admirers who are referred to as Cubs and Otters. I found dating opportunities that helped me to accept myself and others as we really are rather than as we had been taught to try and be. Recovery has been the most important part of my journey and I've been helped in so many ways by online resources that are free and available any time I need them. I have found great educational opportunities, volunteer gifts and spiritual challenges on the web and here are some of those sites that I use frequently:
